Gypsum application

Gypsum-based materials encompass a wide range of products used in both construction and decoration.

Notable application include gypsum mortar and joint compounds, which are applied to achieve smooth finishes on walls and ceilings;

Gypsum board—also referred to as drywall or plasterboard—widely used for building partition walls and ceiling systems;

And gypsum-based self-leveling compounds, ideal for producing even, level flooring surfaces in construction projects.

Water retention test

Water retention is essential for gypsum plaster to set properly without drying too quickly. It is commonly evaluated using two methods: the Filter Paper Test, which measures moisture retention against a porous surface, and the Wicking Test, which assesses the plaster’s ability to hold water under drying conditions.

Tensile adhesive strength test

The tensile adhesion test evaluates how effectively gypsum-based mortar to its base material. In this procedure, the gypsum plaster is placed onto a surface and allowed to cure under standardized conditions, including thermal exposure. The bonding performance is then measured after 14 and 28 days.

Water absorption test

Moisture can cause serious and irreversible damage to gypsum-based materials. To protect set gypsum mortar from moisture penetration, our water-repellent additive WR10 can be incorporated into the dry-mix formulation. It enhances water resistance by reducing water absorption and improving water beading properties.

To assess the mechanical properties of hardened gypsum plaster, two key strength tests are conducted: the compressive strength test and the flexural strength test.
